ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861g: 379 (key), 385 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ In Italia media et boreali [central and boreal (= northern) Italy]”.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Heteronychia filia View in CoL ( Verves 1986: 154, Povolný & Verves 1997: 184); valid species, as Sarcophaga (Heteronychia) filia View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 8, 1996: 327, Pape et al. 1995: 14, Whitmore 2011: 32; Krčmar et al. 2019: 129).

REMARKS: Rondani (1861g: 385) described both sexes of Sarcophaga filia without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. In his redescription (1862d: 105) Rondani specified the type locality: “ In agro Parmensi … In Etruri a [Parmese territory … Etruria (= Tuscany)]”. Pape (1988:8) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀) but did not mention an additional three males: one in the MZUF and two in the MSNC (all are paralectotypes).
