ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 24.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Valdivia [ Valdivia (southern Chile)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Sarcophaginae View in CoL ( Lopes 1969: 54, Pape 1996: 445).
REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 24) described Sarcophaga philippii from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 33) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “691” which we did not locate in this study.
