ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 121 (key), 140 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi, etiam apennino [ Parmese territory, also the Apennines ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one covered with mold, missing right mid-leg, the other slightly moldy) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / capillata Rnd. / 643; 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista capillata Rnd. 47 ♂ Apenn. [= Apennines] / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. D-17 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Alsomyia capillata ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 223, Pape et al. 1995: 21, Cerretti 2010: 233, O’Hara et al. 2020: 289).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 140) described both sexes of Exorista capillata without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of length. We found three male syntypes in this study. The female syntype is presumed lost.
