Exorista comata Rondani, 1859 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 120 (key), 137 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus et planitie ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills and plains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left mid-leg; one missing mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / comata Rnd. / 640; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista comata R. 384 Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 5, posiz. B-5 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Carcelia lucorum ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 214) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 137) described Exorista comata from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and giving a single measurement of length: “ Mascula tantum pauca inveni [I found a few males only]”. We found four syntypes in this study: three males in the MZUF and one specimen (sex not determinable) in the MSNC. An additional MZUF specimen numbered “640” is not included in the type series because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition .
