ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 123 (key), 147 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ ex Insubria [Insubria (= Lombardy, Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Catagonia aberrans ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 202, Pape et al. 1995: 20, O’Hara et al. 2009: 65, Cerretti 2010: 204; O’Hara et al. 2020: 309).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 147) described Exorista aberrans from a single female: “ Unicam foeminam inveni [I found a single female]” received from the Villa brothers. We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. The MZUF contains a male (Box D) from “ Parma ”, which is not the type locality.
