TYPE LOCALITY: “ in pedemontio [Piedmont ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 11): Chetolyga Rndn. / cilitibia Bellardi / 564; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN: Box 64): [illegible label] / Chetoliga Rond. cilitibia Bell., Stura [= Stura Valley (Piedmont)], ♂; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN: Box 64): 19 69 / Chetoliga Rond. cilitibia Bell., Stura [= Stura Valley (Piedmont)], ♂; 1 ♂, syntype ( MRSN: Box 64): 6 69 / Chetoliga Rond. cilitibia Bell., Stura [= Stura Valley (Piedmont)], ♂.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Winthemia venusta ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 182) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 109) described Chetolyga cilitibia from a few males: “ mares tantum aliquos observavi … captos a Prof. Bellardi [I observed some males only collected by Prof. Bellardi]”. We found four male syntypes in this study. Rondani attributed the species name to L. Bellardi. This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Chetolyga ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chetoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 54).
