Chetolyga pilifera Rondani, 1859 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 105 (key), 110 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ a Pedemontio … in ditione parmense [Piedmont … Parmese territory ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (slightly covered with mold, missing mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 11): Chetolyga Rndn. / pilifera Rnd. , ♂ / 567.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Timavia amoena ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 179) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 110) described Chetolyga pilifera from two males: “ Mares duo tantum speciei observavi, quorum unum … misit olim Cl. Genéus, alterum … a me captum [I observed only two males of the species, formerly one of them sent by Mr. Gené …, the other collected by me]”. We found just one male syntype in the MZUF in this study. The additional male syntype is presumed lost. A female in the MZUF (Box E) numbered “567” is not included in the type series because of its sex. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Chetolyga ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chetoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 54).
