ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 105 (key), 107 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing right hind-leg) ( MZUF: Box 11) : Chetolyga Rndn. / xanthigastra [sic!] Rnd., ♂ / 566; 1 ♂, syntype ( MSNPV: Box 97) : Chetoliga Rnd. xanthigastra [sic!] R., 85, ♂, Parma .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Winthemia rufiventris (Macquart, 1849) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 181) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 107) described Chetolyga xantigastra from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Bis marem tantum speciei … inveni [I found the male of the species only twice]”. We found two syntypes in this study. This nominal species was described under the generic name “ Chetolyga ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chetoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 54).
