Chetogena grandis Rondani, 1859 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 176 (key), 178 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Liguria vel in Pedemontio [Liguria as well as Piedmont ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MZUF: Box 12): Chetogena Rnd.

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 178) described Chetogena grandis from a single male: “ unicum masculum observavi a Clar. Spinola mihi transmissus [I observed a single male sent to me by Mr. Spinola]”. Massimiliano Spinola collected both in Piedmont and in Liguria. There are two males in the MZUF, one of which L. Messnil examined. We consider this latter as the holotype. Herting (1969: 195) incorrectly designated Mesnil’s specimen as the lectotype and considered the other male as belonging to a different species.
