ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 461.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island, Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421).

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Sarawak / Typus / borneana Rond. / Haematopoda borneana n° 76.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Stone 1975: 74).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 461) described Haematopota borneana from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 195) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 54) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG. The additional two females in the MSNG and MZUF not examined by Ricardo are paralectotypes.
