CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Meliscaeva auricollis ( Meigen, 1822) ( Peck 1988: 30) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 130) described both sexes of Syrphus nigritibius without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. We found 17 syntypes in this study.
