REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 12) described Syrphus decemmaculatus from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 32) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Syrphus decemmaculatus Phil. R. ) numbered “647”. We also found one syntype in this study.
