ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 181.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Venezuela ” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype ( MRSN: Box 1755): Tanipeza Fall. callitarsis Rndn. , Venezuela / Tanipeza callitarsis Rond. 1850: 181 , Venezuela.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, unplaced to genus of Tanypezidae ( Steyskal 1967a: 3) ; valid species, as Neotanypeza callitarsis ( Lonsdale 2013: 19, Lonsdale 2014: 415).
REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 181) described Tanipeza callitarsis from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Lonsdale (2013: 19) reported having studied the MRSN holotype. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Tanipeza , which is an “unjustified emendation of Tanypeza Fallén, 1820 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 174).
