ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 434.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421) .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype ( MSNG): Borneo, Sarawak, 1865/1866, Coll. Doria / Typus / Chelyophora borneana Rond. / Chelyophora borneana n° 26.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Hardy 1977: 92, Norrbom et al. 1999: 123).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 434) described Chelyophora borneana from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 194) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 57) reported the holotype (♀) in the MSNG.
