ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1875c: 436.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Insula Bonae Fortunae (Borneo) , Provincia Sarawak [ Bona Fortuna Island , Sarawak Province, Borneo]” ( Rondani 1875c: 421) .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, holotype (missing right wing) ( MSNG): Sarawak / Typus / erebus Rond. / Rioxa erebus n° 29.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Hardy 1977: 67, Norrbom et al. 1999: 204).

REMARKS: Rondani (1875c: 436) described Rioxa erebus , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material collected by G. Doria and O. Beccari. Guiglia (1957: 196) and Raineri & Rey (1996: 57) reported the holotype in the MSNG. Hardy (1986: 121) incorrectly reported two females in the MSNG.
