ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1870a: 15 (key), 21 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in montuosis agri brixiensis [ Brescian mountains ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (abdomen in microvial pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 32): Urophora Desv. / scutellata Rnd. , ♀, Brixia [= Brescia] / 1697 / holotype Urophora scutellata Rondani , det. I.M. White, 1986.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Urophora aprica ( Fallén, 1820) ( Foote 1984: 141, White & Korneyev 1989, Norrbom et al. 1999: 241).

REMARKS: Rondani (1870a: 21) described Urophora scutellata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel faeminam legit Nob. Car. Tacchetti [the female collected once by Noble C. Tacchetti]”. Ian M. White labeled the MZUF specimen as “ holotype ” in 1986, but White & Korneyev (1989: 346) reported it as a syntype. We also found one syntype in this study.
