ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1870c: 107 (key), 111 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 32): Tripeta Mgn / loricata Rnd., Appen. [= Apennines] / 1708.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Chaetorellia loricata ( Foote 1984: 79, White 1986: 147, White & Marquardt 1989: 478, Merz 1994: 83, Belcari et al. 1995b: 9, Norrbom et al. 1999: 122).

REMARKS: Rondani (1870c: 111) described Tripeta loricata from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Marem tantum inveni [I found only the male]”. White & Marquardt (1989: 478) reported a single male in the MZUF. We found one syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Tripeta , which is an “unjustified emendation of Trypeta Meigen, 1803 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 185).
