ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1857: 12.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ ad Tergestum [Trieste ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 10): Schineria Rnd / tergestina Rnd. / 501.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 271, Pape et al. 1995: 24, O’Hara et al. 2009: 173, 2020: 870, Cerretti 2010: 305).

REMARKS: Rondani’s (1857: 12) key for the genus Schineria Rondani, 1856 lists Schineria tergestina as its type species, without specifying the number , sex or length of the specimens, from material received from J.R. Schiner. In his redescription, Rondani (1859b: 46) indicated having collected the male sex. We found one male syntype in this study.
