Hyalomyia unicolor Rondani, 1868 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1868a: 47.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in colle Agri parmensis [ Parmese hill ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (dirty) ( MZUF: Box 17): Hyalomyia Desv. / unicolor Rndn. / 920.

CURRENT STATUS: Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993) did not list it; nomen dubium in the genus Hyalomya ( Evenhuis & Pape 2020) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1868a: 47) described Hyalomyia unicolor from just the male sex without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Semel captus mas [The male collected once]”. We found a male syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Hyalomyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Hyalomya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 or subsequent usage of Hyalomyia Macquart, 1834 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 98).
