ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861b: 212 (key), 216 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Liguria ( Italy)” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, holotype (dirty, covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 17): Hyalomyia [sic!] Desv. / areolaris Rndn, Pedem. [= Piedmont] / 922.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Phasia obesa (Fabricius, 1798) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 411) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861b: 216) described Hyalomya areolaris from a single male: “ Unicum masculum observavi collectuom a D. Mussino [I observed a single male collected by Mr Mussino]”. Giuseppe Mussino collected both in Piedmont Alps and in Liguria . In his original description Rondani gave Liguria as the type locality, although the label has “Pedem” [= Piedmont] .
