ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 156 (key), 158 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese plains and hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right hind-leg), 1 ♀, syntype (missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 12): Lecanipa Rnd. / patellifera Rnd. / 584; 1 ♀, syntype (missing right fore- and mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box D): Lecanipa R. patellifera R., 238, ♀, Parma / 393 238; 1 ♂, syntype (missing left hind-, right fore-, mid- and hind-legs) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Lecanipa R. patellifera R. 60 ♂ Parma / Coll. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Lecanipa leucomelas ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 158, O’Hara et al. 2020: 236).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 158) described both sexes of Lecanipa patellifera without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but had more than one specimen because he wrote: “ non rara praesertim mensibus Majo et Junio [not rare above all in May and July]”. We found six syntypes in this study.
