ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 18 (key), 26 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese plains and hills ( Italy)]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing left hind-leg), 4 ♀♀, syntypes (one covered with mold, its puparium pinned below specimen, missing right fore- and left mid-legs; one missing left fore- and right hind-legs; one missing right fore-, mid-, and hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 15): Masicera Macq. / virilis Rnd. / 751; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box D): Masicera virilis Rnd. , 283, ♂, Apenn. [= Apennines] / 393 283.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Blondelia nigripes (Fallén, 1810) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 169) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 26) described both sexes of Masicera virilis without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, treating it within the subgenus Ceromasia Rondani, 1856 , which is now considered as a valid genus ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 50). We found seven syntypes in this study.
