Micropalpus impudicus Rondani, 1859 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 65 (key), 68 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ environs de Paris [near Paris ] ( Robineau-Desvoidy 1844: 5) [locality for Bonellia haemorrhoidalis (Fallén, 1810) sensu Robineau-Desvoidy ]; “ De France et d’Allemagne [ France and Germany] ( Macquart 1845: 271) [localities for Micropalpus haemorrhoidalis (Fallén, 1810) sensu Macquart ]; “ in collibus subapenninis ditionis parmensis [Parmese sub-Apennine hills ( Italy)]” (Rondani 1859: 68) [type locality for Micropalpus impudicus Rondani, 1859 ].

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one covered with mold, missing fore-legs, the other partially eaten by dermestids, missing right mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 10): Micropalpus Mcq. / impudicus Rnd. / 511; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box E): Micropalpus impudicus R., 182, ♂, Apr. / 393 182; 1 ♂, syntype (MNHN: Meigen collection): Micropalp. haemorrhoidalis , ♂ / 1797 40 / MNHN, Paris ED 4907; 1 ♀, syntype (missing left fore- and right mid-legs) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Micropalpus impudicus Rnd. 12 ♀ Apenn. [= Apennines] / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. B-2 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Linnaemya impudica ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 285, Pape et al. 1995: 24, Cerretti 2010: 320), valid species, as Linnaemya (Linnaemya) impudica ( O’Hara et al. 2020: 638) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 68) proposed Micropalpus impudicus for Bonellia haemorrhoidalis (Fallén, 1810) sensu Robineau-Desvoidy (1844: 37) and for Micropalpus haemorrhoidalis (Fallén, 1810) sensu Macquart (1845: 271) , which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Macquart’s and Robineau-Desvoidy’s redescription of Micropalpus haemorrhoidalis , which were based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to an unspecified number of specimens of both sexes in his collection. Therefore, the type material should be in the collections of Macquart (MNHN, MHNL, OUMNH), Robineau-Desvoidy (MNHN) and Rondani. Macquart (1845: 271) redescribed the species from some females in his collection and one male in the collection of Meigen (MNHN). No specimen under the name Micropalpus haemorrhoidalis is present in either the MHNL (O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019) or OUMNH (Z. Simmons, pers. comm., 2019) where Macquart’s collection is preserved. We found five syntypes in this study: three in the MZUF, one in the MNHN and one in the MSNC. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Micropalpus ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Micropalpis Macquart, 1834 ” ( Evenhuis et al. 2016: 85).
