Body elongate, robust, parallel-sided. Head, pronotum, and scutellum black, shining, with apex of tylus and broad area across pronotal humeri dark red-brown. Scutellum entirely dull gray, pruinose. Apical 1/4 of corium, basal and all margins of clavus (sometimes not distinct), apical corial margin, greater portion of membrane, except extreme base, 1 or 2 suffused spots at level of corial apices, and broadly at apex opaque white, dark chocolate brown; cubital vein and radial vein testaceous, remaining areas of corium light yellow testaceous. All legs uniformly light testaceous, shining. 1st antennal segment and distal 1/3 of segment II brown with basal 2/3 of segment II lighter, 3rd and 4th antennal segments darker brown. Abdomen dark chocolate brown to black, with 3rd and 4th terga red-brown and posterior margins of 5th and 6th sterna yellow. Area of calli and most of posterior pronotal lobe glabrous. Head with scattered punctures; collar area of pronotum bearing numerous fine punctures, broad transverse pronotal impression with coarse, rugose punctures; lateral margins of pronotum thickly clothed with long upright, short decumbent and semidecumbent hairs.

Head small, non-declivent, moderately convex across vertex, tylus attaining distal 1/3 of antennal segment I, eyes small, little protrudent, set well away from anterolateral pronotal angles, head length 0.83, width 0.86, interocular space 0.52. Pronotum with lateral margins nearly parallel on posterior 2/3 then angled mesad at level of calli to anterior margin, a deep median longitudinal groove on anterior lobe, transverse impression broad, complete, posterior margin concave mesally, pronotum length 2.10, maximum width 1.95. Scutellum without any distinct elevation, length scutellum 0.94, width 0.94. Hemelytra with lateral corial margins nearly parallel, radial vein carinate, membrane attaining posterior margin of abdominal tergum VI; distance from apex clavus to apex corium 1.45, distance from apex corium to apex abdomen 3.20. Metathoracic scent gland auricle rounded, short, distinctly curving anteriorly. Fore femora very strongly incrassate and angulate, armed below with 2 rows of short sharp spines, a bifid spine present on distal of fore femora; middle and hind femora with six small acute spines below. Labium attaining posterior margin of prosternum, length labial segments I 0.52, II 0.39, III 0.29, IV 0.48. Length antennal segments I 0.25, II 0.79, III 0.79, IV 1.09; total length 8.95. Diagnosis. M. testaceus sp. nov. belongs to the Macropes raja complex. The new species is similar to M. major Matsumura , but can be recognized by all the legs being uniformly bright testaceous (all the femora and tibiae dark chocolate brown in M. major ); the membrane is dark chocolate brown with one or two suffused pale spots at the level of the corial apices (nearly entire basal 2/3 of membrane dark in M. major ); the radial and cubital vein testaceous, nearly unicolorous with light yellow testaceous ground color of the corium (nearly all the radial and cubital vein dark brown in M. major , strongly contrasting with adjacent areas of corium); the metathoracic scent gland auricle is not so broad and more strongly curving anteriorly; the pygophore opening is different too (Slater & Wilcox 1973).

The new species also differs from M. minor Slater, Ashlock & Wilcox in: body larger (8.75 vs. 7.56); length of pronotum subequal to basal width (length of pronotum greater than basal width in M. minor ); legs uniformly bright light testaceous (dark chocolate brown in M. minor ); cubital vein and radial vein of corium testaceous, nearly unicolorous with adjacent areas of corium (the cubital vein, distal 1/2 of radial vein and a narrow stripe through distal 1/2 of central area of corium dark chocolate brown to black in M. minor , strongly contrasting with adjacent areas of corium).

Material. Holotype: male, Meng’a, Xishuangbanna (22.1° N, 100.3° E), Yunnan, China, 1050–1080 m, 12. VIII. 1958, Shuyong Wang. The specific name testaceus of the new species is a Latin adjective, referring to the color of all the legs, which is uniformly bright testaceous.
