Material examined. Mount Elgon, above Suam Saw Mills, 1°11′N 34°55′E, 2430 m, litter under Podocarpus , 1 ♀, 1 imm., 4 February 1979; Molo, 0°15′S 35°44′E, 2250 m, 1 ♀, 15 December 1964; Kikuyu Escarpment Forest, 0°39′S 36°46′E, 1950 m, 1 ♀, 1 imm., 4 March 1970.

Description. Male. See Wanless (1978: 13).

Female. Carapace with very shallow constriction behind eye field, orange to light brown, anterior part of eye field tinged with grey, eyes surrounded by black rings, ocular area slightly pitted. A few fine hairs on carapace, a number of longer bristles next to eyes. Chelicerae with four promarginal and seven retromarginal teeth. Mouthparts light brown. Abdomen oval, blackish, with two white transverse patches in the third of its length. Venter light. Spinnerets short, yellowish grey. Legs short, slender, yellowish, first pair with brown femora. Legs III and IV with blackish streak along retrolateral side. Spination of ventral surface of first leg: pair of spines on patella, five pairs on tibia and two pairs on metatarsus. Epigyne with a large central depression, lateral pouches hidden under lateral edges of the depression, which are strongly sclerotized ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 22 – 23 ). Internal structure as in Fig. 23 View FIGURES 22 – 23 , very large accessory glands posteriorly. Dimensions. Cephalothorax: length 2.4, width 1.6, height 1.0. Abdomen: length 3.5, width 1.9. Eye field: length 1.2, anterior width 1.4, posterior width 1.5.

Distribution. Hitherto known from Kivu Mountains in Congo ( Zaire) and SE Nigeria. This is the first record of this species from Kenya.
