Type:—Unknown locality, auf der gelben Chinarinde, s.c., s.n. ( Cinchona cordifolia ), (not seen).
Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 .
Thallus corticolous, grey to greenish grey or olive, continuous, smooth, dull. Lirellae sessile, lacking a thalline margin, short, not branched or rarely trifurcate, labia convergent, rarely slightly divergent, entire, black, not pruinose, disc usually not, or only rarely visible from above, blackish to brownish, not or very slightly whitish pruinose (nuda- or hossei -morph). Exciple completely carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely septate, 5- septate, 30–45 × 5–7 μm, 5–11-septate, 25–35 × 7–8 μm (holotype, Lücking et al. 2009), 25–45 × 5–9 μm ( Lücking et al. 2009).
Chemistry: no lichen substances by TLC (anal. K. Kalb).
Distribution and habitat:—Pantropical ( Lücking et al. 2009). So far reported from U.S.A. in Florida ( Lücking et al. 2011) , from Brazil (type of G. virescens Müll. Arg. ), the Seychelles ( Aptroot & Sparrius 2008 –present) and here reported from Thailand for the first time, where it is growing on bark of an unidentified deciduous tree in a palm tree plantation.
Remarks:—This is a very rare lichen in Thailand or likely overlooked because it is very tiny. It is characterized by its sessile black, straight or curved lirellae, a completely carbonized exciple and relatively small, transseptate ascospores.
Material from Thailand examined:— Ranong province, area of Ban Heownumsai along side road from Phetkasem Road (Road #4) to Ton Petch Waterfall (Rainbow Waterfall), ca. 30 km S of Ranong City , in a palm tree plantation, 20 m, 9°43’27’’ N, 98°36’52’’ E, 6 June 2015, J.
