Type :— INDIA OCCIDENTALIS, Swartz s.n. (H-Ach. 584!, holotype) .
Thallus corticolous, whitish, off-white, whitish gray or greenish gray, continuous, smooth to uneven due to many enclosed crystals, dull. Lirellae erumpent, with lateral thalline margin, short to slightly elongate, straight or slightly curved, usually unbranched, labia convergent, entire, disc concealed (lineola- morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium inspersed (type A); ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely 7–9-septate, 28–38 × 7–8 μm ( Staiger 2002, holotype), 20–40 × 6–8 μm ( Lücking et al. 2009, holotype).
Chemistry: no lichen substances by spot-tests with KOH and P ( Staiger 2002).
Distribution and habitat:—Pantropical ( Lücking et al. 2009), but obviously rare in Thailand (only 1 collection is known from Trat province: Kho Chang island (Vainio 2009). It is reported from the USA, Florida ( Seavey et al. 2017) , Lesser Antilles (type locality), Europe, Portugal ( Lepista & Aptroot 2016), Africa ( Joshi et al. 2016), China, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines ( Wolseley et al. 2002), Taiwan ( Aptroot & Sparrius 2008 –present), Australia and Japan (Archer 2009). It was not present in our collections.
Remarks:— Graphis lineola is characterized in having lineola -morph lirellae, an inspersed hymenium, ± small ascospores and lacking secondary lichen products. Similar is Graphis submarginata Lücking , but this species differs in having scripta -morph lirellae.
