Basionym: Graphis verminosa Müller Arg., J. Linn. Soc., Bot. View in CoL 29: 224 (1892).
Type:— INDIA. Manipur: G. Watt s.n. ( BM, holotype; G!, isotype) .
Thallus corticolous, beige-gray, whitish gray or gray, smooth or uneven, corticate, glossy. Lirellae prominent, with a thick lateral and a very thin apical thalline margin, elongate, up to 4 mm long, straight, curved or sinuous, irregularly branched, labia convergent, striate, gray-black, disc concealed, not visible from above ( acharii -morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely ca. 22–35-septate, 90–170 × 6–10 μm (D. D. Awasthi & K. P. Singh, on annotationslip attached to the holotype).
Chemistry: norstictic acid (Nakanishi on annotatin slip, attached to the isotype).
Distribution and habitat:—Southwestern Europe and eastern Palaeotropics, reported from Portugal ( Lepista & Aptroot 2016), India (type locality), Sri Lanka ( Aptroot & Sparrius 2008 –present) and for the first time from Thailand, Loei province, where it is growing commonly in lower montane scrubs ( Poengsungnoen et al. 2010). It was not present in our collections.
Remarks:—Very similar is Allographa trichospora (see above), but this species has slightly smaller ascospores (74–96 × 5–6 μm) and the exciple is only apically carbonized.
