Basionym: Graphis sauroidea Leighton, Trans. Linn. Soc. London View in CoL 25: 452 (1866).

Type :— BRAZIL. Amazonas : Obidos, Spruce 331 ( BM!, holotype; H, not seen, isotype) .

Thallus corticolous, off-white to yellowish gray or greenish gray, continuous or slightly cracked, smooth, slightly uneven or tuberculate, corticate, dull or slightly glossy. Lirellae prominent, with a basal or lacking thalline margin, short to elongate, up to 4 mm long, straight or curved, simple or scarcely branched, labia convergent, entire, black, sometimes slightly white pruinose along the slit, disc concealed, ( hossei -morph). Exciple completely carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 6–8/ascus, hyaline, transversely 8–15-septate, 45–60 × 10–14 μm, ( Staiger 2002, holotype); transversely 10–11-septate, 32–43 × 7–8 μm, (Vaino 1909, material from Thailand).

Chemistry: lichexanthone (anal. Staiger 2002).

Distribution and habitat:—This species seems to be very rare in Thailand. Only one collection is known from Trat province ( Vainio 1909) and it was never collected again in the country by the many subsequent collectors. Recently it was reported from Florida ( Lücking et al. 2011) .

Remarks:—This species is characterized in having hossei -morph lirellae, a completely carbonized exciple, a clear hymenium, transversely septate, medium-sized ascospores and lichexanthone as a major metabolite.
