Distribution in Iran. Hormozgan ( Linnavuori 2004), Ilam, Kermanshah ( Hoberlandt 1955, Safavi 1959, Modarres Awal 1997b as Bagrada picta (Fabricius, 1776)) , Khorasan ( Horváth 1936 as Bagrada picta ), Khuzestan ( Horváth 1936; Hoberlandt 1997), Mazandaran (Sakenin et al. 2008 as Bagrada picta ), Sistan & Baluchestan ( Hoberlandt 1997), Iran (no locality cited) ( Hoberlandt 1961 as Bagrada picta ; Derjanschi & Péricart 2005; Rider 2006).

General distribution. North Africa, Near East, Central Asia ( Iran, Iraq), Arabian Peninsula, tropical Africa ( Cape Verde Archipelago), China. Also Derjanschi and Péricart (2005) mention this species from India and Sri Lanka.

Host plants. On Brassicaceae ( Modarres Awal 1997b) and Brassica campestris ( Brassicaceae ) (Sakenin et al. 2008); according to Derjanschi & Péricart (2005) B. hilaris feeds on Capparidaceae ( Capparis spp. ) and Brassicaceae (e.g. Colza spp.).
