36. Cyathea surinamensis (Miq.) Domin (1929: 264) View in CoL . Hemitelia surinamensis Miquel (1843: 191) . Alsophila surinamensis (Miq.) Smith (1866: 244) . Type:— SURINAME. Bergendaal, Focke s.n. (holotype U, photo GH), the fragment ex Herb. Miquel (K) is probably the same collection ( Windisch 1978). See Windisch (1978) for synonymy.

Distribution and habitat: — Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil, in Amazonian rainforest between 10– 770 m.

Remarks: — Cardenas 3002 (F) is a sterile juvenile plant from Prov. Pando, Bolivia, that presumably represents this species.
