Nomenclatural notes:—In the protologue, Schott & Endlicher (1832) quoted: “Habitat in Brasiliae montibus Serra d’Estrella, locis sylvaticis umbrosis. (Schott.)”. Referring to the type of H. brasiliensis, Hansen (1980) wrote: “Type. Schott sn, Brazil, Mt. Serra d’Estrella (Not located)”. We searched for type specimens in B, BP, BR, G, H, K, L, M, NY, OXF, STU, U, US, and W, but we were not able to trace any original material. Since the protologue does not present any additional specimen, gathering or illustration, we designate here a specimen from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as the neotype of H. brasiliensis .
