Type Locality: NE Italy, Udine Prov., Muzzana del Turgnano, Bosco Baredi-Selva di Arvonchi.

Vernacular Names: Udine Shrew.

Distribution: NE Italy, Udine Province, and probably adjacent Slovenia ( Lapini and Testone, 1998).

Discussion: Subgenus Sorex , S. araneus group. Possibly related or conspecific with Sorex antinorii (Brünner et al., 2002 a), although its karyotype has not been studied yet. Genetically well distinguished from araneus ( Lapini et al., 2001) , but morphological differences between both species weak ( Breda, 2002).
