Diagnostic description.— General characteristics as described above. Stridulatory file of male 1.75 mm long, with 110 teeth, maximum width of file 79 μm; proximal end of file strongly curved, with teeth considerably smaller than on the remainder of file ( Figs. 48 View FIG. 48 F-G). Mirror of stridulatory apparatus approximately oval, somewhat longer than wide. Fastigium of vertex usually at least 3 times as long as eye diameter, somewhat dilated midlength when seen from above, and blunt apically.

Ovipositor at most as long as hind femur, sometimes shorter (ratio ovipositor/hind femur 0.92-1.04), distinctly downcurved ( Fig. 18 View FIG. 18 B).

Measurements.— Table 13 View TABLE 13 .

Distribution.— This species, originally described from Cuba, has been recorded also from Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Reports of this species from South America ( Surinam, Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia) ( Redtenbacher 1891, Karny 1907) belong, according to Hebard (1925), to a closely related, but distinct species. In Costa Rica, C. cuspidata seems to be restricted in its distribution to the Pacific part of the country ( Map 11 View MAPS 7 - 12 ).
