Pontonia pinnae .— Ortmann, 1894: 16, pl. 1, fig. 3; Nobili 1906a: 49, pl. 4, figs. 11–11b; Nobili 1906b: 65 [not P. pinnae Lockington 1878 ].

Material examined. Kuwait: 1 ov. female (pocl 6.8), 1 male (pocl 4.9), OUMNH. ZC. 2020.01.028, Qit’at Uraifjan, 28°59’53.41”N 48°15’45.31”E, depth 10 m, in Pinna bicolor Gmelin , leg. S. De Grave, 24.ix.2019 [fcn KUW-003, KUW-004] .

General distribution. Widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, ranging from the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf ( Kuwait) to Fiji ( Bruce 1982; present study).

Ecology. Intertidal down to 30 m; always associated with bivalves of the genus Pinna .

Remarks. Anchistus custos was previously recorded from the Arabian Gulf by Nobili (1906a, 1906b, as “ Pontonia pinnae Ortm. ”) based on material from the UAE. However, no further records of this relatively common shrimp have come to light since 1906 from the Gulf, until the present record from Kuwait.
