The holotype female was collected by H. Brauns from Willowmore , Cape Province (33° 10' S, 23° 21' E) and deposited in the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris. The female is 7 mm in length, slightly larger than specimens of P. croeseri spec. nov. , and darker in colour. The two species resemble each other closely but P. planus has a calamistrum consisting of a single series of setae.
