Cheumatopsyche saplaca Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 91–94

With very wide lateral interlobular gaps and dorsal interlobular gap, and elongated apicoventral setal lobe this species resembles C. cocles Malicky from Thailand. However, in C. saplaca the pair of apicoventral lobes broaden apicad and curve laterad in dorsal view. Furthermore, the phallotheca is sinuous and convex, not straight; and the apicolateral corners of tergum IX bearing longer straight, stout spines than in C. cocles .

Male. Body and wings light brown with golden pubescence. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum light brown with 9 similarly coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundles. Forewing length 5.5 mm, hind wing length 4.0 mm. Hind wing fork I absent.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; tergum short, sternum twice as long as tergum ( Fig. 91); anterior margins of segment IX uniformly convex, slightly incised ventrally in lateral view ( Fig. 91); apical lobe on posterolateral margins triangular, present above base of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX complete, with 2–3 straight, stout spines on lateral corners of tergum; spines directed posterad, longer than segment X. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X deep, acutely angled ( Fig. 91). Segment X short, nearly quadrangular ( Fig. 91), trilobed in dorsal view ( Fig. 92); apex of setaless mesocaudal lobes ellipsoid in dorsal view ( Fig. 92); posterad pointing in lateral view ( Fig. 91). Apicoventral setose lobe enlarged, curving dorsad, clavate in lateral view, triangular in dorsal view ( Fig. 91, 92). Lateral interlobular gap wide, slightly curving ( Fig. 91). Dorsal interlobular gap widening distad in dorsal view ( Fig. 92), partly covered by obtuse setaless mesocaudal lobe in dorsal view. Pair of lateral setose areas forming elevated warts distally and at mid-height on segment X, clearly visible in dorsal and lateral view ( Fig. 91). Longtudinal sutures forming sclerotised continuation of apicoventral setal lobes, located along and parallel with ventral margin of segment X; reaching posterior margin of segment IX. Transverse sutures discernible, dividing segment X into slightly sclerotised basal part and more sclerotised distal part. Coxopodites extending well beyond apex of segment X, straight along their lengths ( Fig. 91); slightly curving mesad in ventral view ( Fig. 93), with dilating apices. Harpagones broadly triangular in lateral view ( Fig. 91), more evenly wide and almost straight in ventral view ( Fig. 93). Phallotheca with almost straight dorsum ( Fig. 94); sclerotised endothecal process elongate ovoid; phallotremal sclerites broad, vertical in lateral view; vestigial membranous endothecal lobes visible on less sclerotised apicoventral corner; phallothecal ventrum convex.

Holotype male: VIETNAM: Bac Thai Province : Quang Chu, 24–25.v.1987 [J. Oláh] ( OPC, in alcohol).

Distribution: Vietnam.

Etymology: saplaca , from Vietnamese “sap la ca”, meaning “hand to hand”, because it was collected by hand net along the stream shore vegetation, and not at light as the majority of Cheumatopsyche species usually are.
