Cheumatopsyche ampanga Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 171–174

This species is similar to C. sambava new species, but is easily distinguished from that species by the evenly distributed light spots on the otherwise brown forewings. In addition, segment IX and apical lobes of segment X are long; the apices of the apicoventral lobes are not turned as strongly mesad in dorsal view as in C. sambava , and are oriented more posterad, not recurved dorsad in lateral view. The harpagones are sigmoid in ventral view; and the phallotheca is not constricted at mid-length.

Male. Wing membrane brown with light pubescence and evenly distributed lighter spots. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum dark brown, with 5 warts of same dark colour and difficult to discern. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Two spurs present on protibia. Forewing length 6 mm, hind wing length 4.5 mm. Forewing crossveins m-cu and cu almost touching. Hind wing fork I absent.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly, rather long, tergum short, sternum twice as long as tergum ( Fig. 171); anterior margins of segment IX regularly convex in lateral view ( Fig. 171), tergal parts less excised and more flat than sternal parts; apical lobe on posterolateral margins broadly triangular, well developed, long, located above base of inferior appendages, at midheight segment IX; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX interrupted between apical lobes and apicolateral corners of tergum. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X deep. Segment X short, nearly triangular in lateral view ( Fig. 171), nearly quadrangular and bilobed in dorsal view ( Fig. 172). Transverse sutures crossing central part of segment X. Longitudinal sutures meeting base of transverse sutures. Setaless mesocaudal lobe not produced posterad, forming concave margin. Apicoventral setal lobes orienting posterad in lateral view ( Fig. 171); slightly curving mesad in dorsal view ( Fig. 172). Pair of lateral setose areas forming elevated warts located well beyond transverse sutures at base of apicoventral setal lobes. Coxopodites extending well beyond apex of segment X, almost straight, slightly broadening terminally after mid-length ( Fig. 171). Harpagones slender, finger-like, not broad at bases, straight in ventral view ( Fig. 173). Phallotheca ( Fig. 174) gradually slightly narrowing distad, with short dilation subapically; sclerotised endothecal process elongated; phallotremal sclerites scarcely visible;

ventral membranous endothecal lobe present.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Ampangalambolosy , 9.x.1957 [P. Soga] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.
