Cheumatopsyche asaha Oláh & Johanson , new species

Fig. 227–230

This species is morphologically related to C. timgulile , new species which also has 2-branched harpagones, but the dorsal interlobular gap on segment X is filled by the apices of the apicoventral setal lobes; and the harpagones are not very broad-based, but convex at mid-length in lateral view, and strongly angled posterad in ventral view.

Male. Body and wings pale brown with brown pubescence; wing without spots or pattern.

Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum brown with 7 similarly coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Each protibiae with 2 spurs. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Forewing length 6.0 mm, hind wing length 4.5 mm. Distance between forewing crossveins m-cu and cu as long as half crossvein m-cu length. Hind wing fork I absent.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; tergum shortened into narrow tip in lateral view, representing dorsocaudal spiny lobe of segment IX; sternum longer than tergum ( Fig. 227); anterior margins of segment IX almost circular ( Fig. 227); apical lobe on posterolateral margins forming blunt subtriangular, long, lobes above base of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins continuous; dorsal spines located on pair of protuberances visible in dorsal view ( Fig. 228), forming transition between segment IX and segment X. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X sloping ( Fig. 227). Segment X long, with ventral margin nearly right-angled in lateral view ( Fig. 227), orienting posterodorsad from mid-length. Apicoventral setal lobes running parallel with ventral margin of segment X, setose along their length in lateral view ( Fig. 227), both apices rounded in lateral view, fusing medially ( Fig. 228), filling dorsal interlobular gap ( Fig. 228). Setaless mesocaudal lobe reduced, with posterior margin encircled by setose apicoventral lobes. Pair of lateral setose areas forming elevated, circular, warts located basally on segment X. Transverse sutures well developed, located basally on segment X. Longitudinal suture present. Coxopodites slender in lateral view ( Fig. 227), gradually broadening apicad; reaching apex of segment X. Harpagones convex at mid-length, both apices slightly curving dorsad ( Fig. 227); bending posterad at mid-length in ventral view ( Fig. 229); with pair of apical projections ( Fig. 227, 228). Phallothecal phallobase medium-sized ( Fig. 230), forming slightly upcurved shaft narrowing slightly towards mid-length before broadening distally into ventral keel at ditsal one-third its length; sclerotised endothecal process circular, partly covering apex of phallotheca; phallotremal sclerites broad in lateral view, vestigial ventral endothecal membranous lobe visible.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Tananarive Province : Ampefy, Soavinandrinana, iii.1957 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: after the angulate tip of the harpago, angle “asaha” in Sanscrit.
