Cheumatopsyche ayopa Oláh & Johanson , new species

This species is close to C. agha , new species and is distinguished by the presence of deeply cleft harpagones; reduced setose processes on the dorsobasal part of segment X; the very narrow and deep, not shallow apicomesal incision of segment X; and the flatter anterior margins of segment IX.

Male. Body and wings brown with brown pubescence; wing with no spots. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum brown with 7 similarly coloured warts. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Forewing length 6.5 mm, hind wing length 4.9 mm. Distance between forewing crossveins m-cu and cu about 1.5 times length of crossvein m-cu. Hind wing fork I present.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; sternum about 2 times longer than tergum ( Fig. 264); anterior margins of segment IX shallowly and widely convex; anterior part of dorsum weakly incised in lateral view ( Fig. 264); apical lobe on posterolateral margins small, located immediately above coxopodites, additional lobes present above apical lobes, near ventral margin of segment X ( Fig. 264); spine row on posterior margins of segment IX complete, dorsal spines twice as long as other spines. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X filled with double-ridged setose elevation, somewhat resembling reduced apicodorsal setal lobes. Segment X long, strongly curving dorsad and gradually narrowing from mid-length ( Fig. 264); simple, tongue-shaped in dorsal view ( Fig. 265); ventral margin strongly convex in lateral view ( Fig. 264); apicoventral setal lobes completely fused with rest of segment X, shape indicated by present setae. Setaless mesocaudal lobe completely reduced; dorsal interlobular gap small, narrow, deep. Pair of lateral setose areas flat, located centrally on segment X ( Fig. 264). Setose processes dorsobasally on segment X absent ( Fig. 265); minute ridge present between both lateral setose areas ( Fig. 265). Transverse sutures not visible. Longitudinal sutures present along ventral margin of segment X. Coxopodites robust ( Fig. 264); basal parts broad in lateral view ( Fig. 264), narrowing before mid-length; apices dilated; exceeding apex of segment X. Harpagones with deeply bifid apices ( Fig. 264); dorsal and ventral branches about paralell, curving dorsad along their lengths. Phallotheca ( Fig. 266) with very broad phallobase; posteriorly slender, sclerotised endothecal process circular; phallotremal sclerites large, arched, vertical in lateral view.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Sa Mandraka , xi.1953 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, alcohol).

Paratypes: same data as holotype — 3 males ( MNHN, in alcohol), 1 male ( OPC, in alcohol) .

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: after the unique bifid harpago with almost fully cleaved harpago, full “ayopa” in Sanscrit.
