Cheumatopsyche vacoana Oláh & Johanson , new species

This species is similar to C. agha and C. ayopa , from which it is distinguished on the presence of unique, bifurcating harpagonal apices. The dorsal branches of the harpagones are reduced to a very thin and straight filament, the lower branches curve dorsad and are very broad. A setose process dorsobasally on segment X is also present in C. agha , and the apicomesal incision on segment X is widely triangular and deep as in C. ayopa .

Male. Body and wings brown with brown pubescence; wings with no spots. Maxillary palp segment I shortest, segment II longer, segments III and IV equally long, segment V as long as sum of segments I–IV. Head dorsum brown with 7 similarly coloured warts. Antennae about 1.5 times longer than forewings. Proepisternum without swollen setal wart. Protarsal claws asymmetrical, laterally flanked by setal bundle. Forewing length 8.9 mm, hind wing length 6.8 mm. Distance between forewing crossveins m-cu and cu about 1.5 times length of crossvein m-cu. Hind wing fork I present.

Male genitalia. Segment IX fused annularly; sternum longer than tergum ( Fig. 274); anterior margins of segment IX convex, symmetrical; apical lobe on posterolateral margins small, located immediately above articulation cavity of coxopodites; spine row on posterior margins of segment IX complete; spines on dorsum twice as long as spines on apical lobes. Intersegmental step between segment IX and segment X sloping. Segment X long, strongly curving dorsad ( Fig. 274); gradually narrowing from mid-length in lateral view ( Fig. 274); simple and narrowing in dorsal view ( Fig. 275); ventral margin strongly convex in lateral view. Apicoventral setal lobes completely fused with segment X, except at both apices ( Fig. 274, 275). Setaless mesocaudal lobe completely reduced. Dorsal interlobular gap small, widely triangular. Simple setose process present on dorsobasal part of segment X. Transverse sutures located basally on segment X ( Fig. 274). Longitudinal sutures present along ventral margin of segment X, merging with ventral end of transverse sutures. Lateral setose areas forming pair of elevated, vertically elongated warts located near basal region of segment X. Coxopodites robust, gradually widening distad in lateral view ( Fig. 274), slightly exceeding segment X apex. Harpagones with bilobed apices, dorsal branches straight, forming thin filament; ventral branches broad, curving dorsad in lateral view ( Fig. 274). Phallothecal phallobase ( Fig. 276) very broad, gradually narrowing distally; sclerotised endothecal process circular; phallotremal sclerites large and broad, oblique in lateral view.

Holotype male: MADAGASCAR: Vacoana , Foret, Imaitso 1150 m, 22.i.1958 [R. Paulian] ( MNHN, in alcohol).

Distribution: Madagascar.

Etymology: from the name of the type locality.
