C o m m e n t: Xantholinus ciliciae View in CoL was originally described in the subgenus Echinophallus COIFFAIT 1956 View in CoL (now a synonym of Idiolinus CASEY 1906), based on a male holotype and seven male paratypes from "Cilicia, Adana" ( BORDONI 1971). Recently, the same species was described again as X. cypriacus in the subgenus Calolinus COIFFAIT 1956 View in CoL , from a single male collected in " Cyprus: Kyrenia " ( BORDONI 2007b). The species is rather common both in southern Turkey and Cyprus ( ASSING 2004 a, 2007a; ASSING & WUNDERLE 2001); for a distribution map see ASSING (2007a). Based on the illustration of the aedeagus and other external characters (coloration, short wings) given in the original description of X. cypriacus , there is no doubt that the holotype is conspecific with the type material of X. ciliciae View in CoL . A study of hundreds of specimens, including the distinctive internal structures of the aedeagus ( Figs 74-77 View Figs 74-80 ), yielded no evidence whatsoever that the material from Cyprus should be specifically distinct from the populations in southern Turkey, so that X. cypriacus is placed in the synonymy of the senior name X. ciliciae View in CoL .
