Type material. Lectotype (present designation), “ Cyphon \ lunatum Sol \ Chili ” [handwritten with brown ink, prob- ably by Solier]; “9 \ 45” [handwritten on a green, round label]. The specimen is missing most of the legs, its right elytron is damaged.

Description. Male, body oblong oval, TL 4.7 mm. Head, pronotum and scutellar shield orange, elytra orange with brownish-black oblique stripe in posterior 1/3, antennae, legs, and ventrum orange. Punctures on elytra separated by ca. 0.5 diameter of a puncture, punctures on pronotum sparser than on elytra, separated by ca. 1.0 diameter. Anterolateral angles of pronotum widely rounded, not projecting. Penis (L 0.59 mm, W 0.29 mm) with long pala, trigonium subtriangular, rounded at apex, parameroids sinuate, hooked at apices; tegmen (L 0.62 mm, W 0.35 mm, styli not included) with relatively wide parameres, apices rounded, styli present, sinuate; tergite VIII (L 0.48 mm, W 0.53 mm) with subtrapezoidal apical plate, covered with setae, apical margin with sparse setae similar like setae present on plate, apodemes short; tergite IX (L 0.40 mm, W 0.47 mm) with transversely rectangular apical plate, apical plate membranous, covered with sparse setae, apical margin with very short and dense setae; sternite VIII (L 0.23 mm, W 0.32 mm) v-shaped, with few setae at apices; sternite IX (L 0.45 mm, W 0.31 mm) suboval, with rounded apical margin, consisting of two hemisternites, apical margin with few sparse, relatively long setae.

Remarks. Solier studied more than a single specimen of this species as ranges of measurements were noted in the original description ( Solier 1849), therefore a lectotype is designated in order to preserve the stability of nomenclature by selecting one specimen as the sole, name-bearing type of the taxon.
