Remarks. This species is distinguished from other Eristalis species by the following combination of characters: bee-like overall appearance; eye uniformly pilose; face shiny black medially, facial black vitta less than 1/3 as wide as face; antenna brownish-black; arista pile more than 3 times longer than its basal diameter; ground colour of thorax visibly seen through thin pilosity; katepimeron bare; apical 1/3–1/2 of fore and hind tibiae black; fore and mid tarsi entirely yellowish orange; male genitalia as in Hippa et al. (2001: figure 19). This species is widespread in Europe and Transcaucasia ( Peck 1988; Speight 2016).
