Previously recorded from Guatemala southward to Paraguay, including some of the Windward Islands of the Caribbean ( Cordeiro 2017). However, there are several gaps throughout the distribution of this species, and it is herein recorded for the first time from Costa Rica. In the country, B. albinervus is found in lotic habitats in backwater areas. It is distributed on both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, up to 1,200 meters above sea level (m a.s.l.).
