Laccophilus sp.

At least eight species are reported from the Antilles ( Leng and Mutchler 1914; Wolcott 1948b; Peck 2016; Megna et al. 2018). We found Laccophilus sp. commonly across St. Thomas, from Flamboyan ghut, Fortuna pond and nearby pools, the Dorothea turtle pond, an artificial ornamental pond on Water Island, and in the water hazards at the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus.

This genus in one of the largest in the Dytiscidae with more than 280 species worldwide, and the Neotropical fauna needs revision ( Miller and Bergsten 2016).
