Tropisternus lateralis (Fabricius, 1775) View in CoL

This hydrophilid beetle was common in dense marginal vegetation in ponds all over St. Thomas. It has been reported from much of the Americas, including the Caribbean. To date, it has been reported from St. Croix and St. Thomas, but not St. John ( Leng and Mutchler 1917; Spangler 1960; Peck 2016).
