Eumantispa pseudoharmandi View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1 – 6 View FIGURES 1 – 3 View FIGURES 4 – 6 , 15, 19 View FIGURE 19 a)

Diagnosis. Head with one black transverse stripe between base of antenna; vertex with a pair of brown stripes along eyes and one light brown transverse stripe at posterior margin. Fore coxa with median part black; inner side of femur with one big black spot in males and one short black stripe in females; tibia black. Broad anterior section of prothorax dark brown and posterior tubular section yellow. Most of the specimens with four RA cells in the forewing. Mediuncus long and thin, with prominent distal branch.

Description. Male. Body length 15.0– 17.5 mm, forewing length 16.0–18.0 mm, forewing width 4.3–4.5 mm.

Head. Generally yellow except one black transverse stripe at base of antenna and two longitudinal stripes along eyes, connected with one light brown transverse stripe at posterior margin of vertex ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 a). Flagellomeres 33–36. Labrum and palpus yellow. Mandible yellow except the outer and inner margin dark brown.

Thorax. Broad anterior section of prothorax dark brown, with one short yellow median stripe; posterior tubular section yellow and wrinkled with about 10 grooves ( Fig. 15 c). Prescutum black. Mesonotum yellow, with a pair of dark brown longitudinal stripes. Metanotum similar to mesonotum, except anterior margin black. Scutellum yellow. Pleural region of mesothorax mostly yellow, except anterior margin of anepisternum black and posterior margin of katepisternum black; pleural region of metathorax yellow. Fore coxa yellow with median part black; trochanter yellow; femur yellow, with one big black median spot on the inner side; tibia black; tarsus brown. Mid and hind legs mostly yellow except base of hind femur dark brown; tarsal claws brown, with 6 teeth. Wings elongated and narrow. Veins mostly brown, except Sc and R yellow in both wings, and base of R, M and Cu black in the forewing. Pterostigma yellowish brown to brown, elongated and narrow. Forewing in most of the specimens with 4 RA cells and 10–13 Rs branches.

Abdomen. Ground color yellow with black stripes. Tergite I with one black median spot; tergites II and III with one black transverse stripe at posterior margin and one black longitudinal stripe at median area; tergites IV to VIII with one dark brown stripe at posterior margin; tergite IX without stripe. Sternites with one black stripe at posterior margin except sternites I, II and IX entirely yellow.

Male genitalia. Ectoproct slightly elongated, with more than 20 short thickened setae on the median sclerite ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ). Gonarcus slightly curved. Pseudopenis short and thin; pseudopenial membrane with sclerites indistinct ( Figs. 4, 5 View FIGURES 4 – 6 ). Mediuncus widened around the base and slightly bilobate at apex.

Female. Similar to male except for the following characters: body length 18.0– 22.5 mm, forewing length 20.5–25.5 mm, forewing width 5.0– 6.5 mm. No spots on the inner side of fore femur, except one slender black stripe around the base of major spine ( Figs. 15 a, 15b); forewing with 12–14 Rs branches; tergite II with one black anterior stripe.

Female genitalia. Spermatheca strongly coiled; base of fertilization canal duct narrow and extremely short ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 4 – 6 ).

Type material. Holotype male, Fujian: Dazhulan, 22.VII.1986, Jiashe Wang & Yi Jiang. Paratype 1 male, Fujian: Yiliping, 22.VIII.1986, Jiashe Wang & Yi Jiang; 1 female, Fujian: Sangang, 06.X.1980, Jiashe Wang & Yi Jiang; 1 female, Fujian: Dazhulan, 29.VII.1983, Jiashe Wang & Yi Jiang.

Distribution. China (Fujian).

Etymology. The specific name refers to “ pseudo -” for the external features of the new species similar to E. harmandi .

Remarks. The new species is quite similar to E. harmandi in the color pattern of prothorax and wings, but can be easily identified by the following characters: vertex with two brown longitudinal stripes and one light brown transverse stripe; fore leg with the median part of coxa black, one black spot or stripe on the inner side of femur and tibia entirely black; most of the specimens with 4 RA cells in the forewing. In E. harmandi , the vertex has only one dark brown stripe at the posterior margin; the fore coxa is yellow, femur and tibia are brown and without spot; the number of RA cells in the forewing varies from 5 to 7.
