48. Gammarella fucicola ( Leach, 1814)

Materials examined. 27 individuals; Stations Vas. 2(1), 5(1), 14(2), 23(1), 27(4), 30(5), 39(13).

Distribution. Atlanto-Mediterranean. The species was reported from Cyprus by Kocatas et al. (2001) and Christodoulou et al. (2013). In Vasiliko Bay (current study), it is considered as a rare species (FI: 16.6 %).

Ecology. Gammarella fucicola was found in association with algae and seagrasses, on rocks and stones, on sandy substrates, in sponges, and in artificial substrata at 1–35 m depth ( Kocatas et al. 2001). In Vasiliko Bay it was found at 6–48 m depth (28 + 13 m), mainly in muddy sand and also sand substrates, with organic matter ranging between 4.621 –8.416 % (6.626 + 1.49 %) and in association with C. prolifera , C. cylindracea and C. nodosa . It was found in stations classified according to the Bentix Index as in: “good” (3 stations, 4 individuals), “moderate” (3 stations, 19 individuals) and “poor” (1 station, 4 individuals). It was recorded at the fish farm stations (15 individuals) and at the ports (4 individuals).
