Plekocheilus (Eurytus) argenteus ( Jousseaume, 1900)

( Figs 10 View FIGURE 10 T–U)

Euritus argenteus Jousseaume 1900: 41 , pl. 1 figs 20–21. Type locality: Venezuela, Mérida, 4000 m. Type material: not located. Plekocheilus argenteus (Jousseaume) ; Richardson 1995: 302 (references).

Material. Venezuela, Mérida: USNM 532637 (ex Fulton), UMMZ 147698 (ex Fulton); Páramo de Mucuchíes or Sierra de Mérida, above 10000 ft [~ 3000 m], E.P. de Bellard leg./1923: USNM 360616; Venezuela: RMNH (ex H. Fruhstorfer).

Remarks. This taxon was classified as P. (Aeropictus) by Breure (1979), probably due to a comparison with P. veranyi by Pilsbry (1902). The type material has not been located, but the material examined by us fits the description, except that the lip is not roseate. The similarity between this and the previous species is striking and, although we refrain from synonymizing them now due to the paucity of material available, they may prove to be very closely allied if not identical.
